I had a realisation recently, and that is that my dedication to film photography may well be holding me back. I’ve always been a bit adverse to film zealots, in so much as I don’t think film makes a great photograph. The medium is just that, a medium. Photographs shot on film can be as crappy and meaningless as a film taken with a digital camera and vice versa. I found myself one weekend thinking, Oh, I have no film, I can’t make work, and then thought, but I have the digital camera. You can always make work if that is your calling. So I have been taking out the SLR again, and trying it out, and you know what, I feel like I am growing again. Don’t get me wrong, I love and adore everything about film, but I refuse to be bound by it. Make photographs however it works. Just keep working.
